View ArticleImmerse yourself in Southern Vietnam’s unique culture, where tradition meets modernity, from Ho Chi Minh City’s skyscrapers rising alongside bustling markets to the Mekong Delta’s tranquil waterways and agricultural landscapes. Our Vietnam programme is packed with activities to learn about:
Southern Vietnam, a dynamic region rich in culture and history, presents a unique opportunity to explore global challenges like sustainable development, environmental conservation, and rural-urban transformation. It is home to a blend of ethnic groups, each contributing to the region's rich tapestry of traditions, festivals, and cuisine through its unique fusion of Vietnamese, Khmer, and Chinese influences.
Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam, is the country’s economic engine, driving innovation, trade, and development in various sectors such as manufacturing, technology, and finance. In contrast, the beautiful Mekong Delta, known as Vietnam’s “Rice Bowl,” is a vital agricultural region, producing much of the country’s rice, fruit, and fish while offering stunning natural landscapes and unique floating markets.
The region also played a pivotal role during the Vietnam War (known as the American War in Vietnam), with significant sites like the Cu Chi Tunnels and War Remnants Museum preserving its history and lessons of resilience.
This inspirational global learning experience takes you beyond the tourist trail in Southern Vietnam spanning the bustling city of Ho Chi Minh, the winding rivers of the lush Mekong Delta, and the tropical forest ecosystems of Cat Tien National Park. Students will learn about the challenges and solutions faced by a rural Mekong community during a homestay, linking the SDGs to real-life experiences in waste management, rice cultivation, traditional fishing methods, climate-adaptive agriculture and food security. You can choose between a jungle trek option, or conservation activities with 2 organisations working with bears and primates. Then it's back to Ho Chi Minh to explore the fusion of Chinese, Indian, French, and Vietnamese cultures, and 20th century Vietnamese war-time history.
