The Country

Few places offer as many life-changing educational experiences as Costa Rica

Sandwiched between Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south, Costa Rica is known for its progressive environmental policies. Named the greenest country in the world in 2009 by the New Economics Foundation, Costa Rica has enjoyed something of a tourism boom with its wide variety of ecosystems and green conservation credentials.

Central America’s Garden of Eden houses tropical rainforests, temperate deciduous, mangrove and cloud forests, and two coral-rich coastlines. It stands out from other Central American destinations as a stable country with highly developed health and education systems. The government even plans to become the first carbon-neutral country in the world by 2021.

The Experience in a Nutshell

Costa Rica is home to spectacular cloud forests teeming with biodiversity, magnificent volcanoes, and pristine beaches bursting with marine life. Costa Ricans are known to be the happiest people on earth, and live by the philosophy behind the phrase ‘Pura Vida’ (pure life).

You'll travel from the jungle trails of the iconic Arenal Volcano National Park to the stunning Pacific Coast, via some of the most bio-diverse forests and breath-taking scenery in the world!

The programme also includes learning about permaculture, sea turtle conservation and helping a Blue Flag beach programme – your contribution to Sustainable Development Goal 14, Life Below Water and Goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production.

  • The turtle project was amazing because it helped us connect with nature and get away from technology. They were very careful about what they did to help the environment.
