An inspiring week based in vibrant Mumbai, learning from 2 community-based local NGOs empowering marginalised urban settlement communities with education and life-skills. Activities are based around learning on:
India is one of the world’s oldest civilisations, yet a young nation which gained independence in 1947. It is the world’s largest democracy (population 1.2 billion) with a strong tradition of religious freedom dating back to 340BC. A fast-growing and powerful economy makes it an important regional power too.
India boasts a wide-ranging topography including the mighty Himalayan mountain range, deserts, the peninsula plateau, river valleys and plains and an extensive coastline. This geographical diversity is reflected in all aspects of Indian life, most noticeably through the 22 official languages spoken here (over 1000 unofficial), and wide range of religions practiced side by side including Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, and Buddhism.
Mumbai is perhaps best-known as the home of 'Bollywood' and many of India's millionaire entrepreneurs. It's also home to the Dharavi community, one of the most densely populated areas in the world, and the Mankhurd re-settled community - both of which you'll be visiting, and learning from the inspiring local NGOs operating there.
Mumbai, the vibrant economic and cultural hub of India, offers an unparalleled opportunity to engage with global issues such as poverty reduction, urbanisation, and education. This exciting trip will give students a chance to learn through hands-on volunteering and workshops with impactful local NGOs, explore the city’s rich heritage, and experience the bustling energy of one of the world’s largest cities. You might even get the chance to upgrade your football skills!
We appreciate how busy teachers are, so we’ve made the booking process as simple as possible! There are 4 easy steps:
Call or email us to book a meeting or teleconference at your school. We will listen carefully to what interest you and your requirements.
We will then email you a tailored proposal, which will include a full itinerary, all-inclusive price, and key documents for the senior management team.
Once you get approval from the SMT, we will send you key marketing material, including posters, to help promote the trip.
We will visit the school, or arrange a Teams/Zoom meeting, to deliver inspiring presentations in a short Morning Assembly and a longer Parents' Presentation 10 days later.
