Welcome to Half Term and our Global Learning resource bulletin. We hope you’ll find some inspiring ideas to engage your students as global citizens!

Global Action’s global learning programme focuses on three strategic areas – poverty reduction, environmental issues, and social justice – so that’s how we’ve categorised the resources.

We’ve put in some hashtags too, giving students the tools to discover at their own pace through social media. Of course, don’t forget #myglobalaction!

Poverty Reduction

#sdgs   #factivism

The 25th September was the anniversary of the launch of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals so if your students don’t know about the SDGs yet, now could be a good time to introduce them.  This UN SDG rap (yes, seriously!) is a quick way of explaining what they are.

CAFOD has produced a handy case study resource for students age 15+ to consider the causes and effects of poverty, which includes potential solutions.

Environmental Issues

#generationrestoration    #fornature

The United Nations Environment Programme have launched a campaign on ecosystem restoration worldwide. Definitely worth following as one of the pillars of the Build Back Better philosophy everyone’s talking about.

Thoughtbox are educators dedicated to teaching about climate change. They offer some free curriculum resources if you register with them.

Social Justice

#internationaldayoftolerance    #teaching_tolerance

November is social justice month, so this is a great time to find online resources to engage everyone with some important issues. The International Day for Tolerance on 16th November is a useful date to introduce concepts of diversity and tolerance.

The Red Cross has some nice resources about refugees and migration to help us understand and celebrate our differences.  The UN also has some resources specifically for the International Day of Tolerance, while  Washington-based Teaching Tolerance website www.tolerance.org has some inspiring lessons and ideas on topics like religion, ethnicity, ability and class.

I hope you find some of these helpful.  We often Tweet about interesting articles on international development issues @globalactionltd so please do follow us.
