Getting Started

Here’s our five step plan to getting started:

  1. Set a target! Are you aiming to raise the whole amount yourself, or part of this cost?
  2. Break down your target into milestones – base this around monthly or termly targets, or think about when you can dedicate the most time to it – especially over summer holidays
  3. Make a mind map of your network, and the different ways in which they might be able to help you – and how you might be able to help them!
  4. Put together the plan to reach your target – use the Global Action Fundraising Planner from your fundraising pack.
  5. Pick your first event and get planning! Once you have your first contribution, reaching your target will feel much more achievable.

Your fundraising will probably be split between individual fundraising and team fundraising – we’ve included some ideas below to get you thinking…

Individual fundraising

  • Selling items on eBay: declutter the house or garage, with those unwanted items you, your siblings and parents don’t want, and sell them on e-bay…Parents, it is brilliant as you can get rid of all that clutter in the house, and your son/daughter can do it to raise funds towards their trip!

  • Easyfundraising- to get contributions towards your trip from internet shopping. Piers, one of our students who came with us to Nepal recently, raised £1,012 towards his trip from easyfundraising
  • Part-time job during the holidays – especially the summer holidays when you have 6 -8 weeks off, our students get:
    • Informal jobs in your village / local community: babysitting, gardening, car washing, dog-walking, sports coaching
    • Formal jobs: in shops, café’s and restaurants, supermarkets, office work
  • Writing to your local Rotary and Lions Club – to ask for a grant towards your trip, or writing to a local company your parents may know, who may be happy to support you. We will email you letter to tailor to your local charity chairperson, all you need to do is to edit it and send it off. Be prepared to present to the charity members on your return.. most of our students raise £150 – £400 from this.
  • Sponsored event
  • Selling art and crafts
